Integrative and Functional Medicine

Integrative medicine is an approach to care that believes a number of therapies can and should be provided in a collaborative way to give a patient the best means possible to heal themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. The ideal of integrative medicine sees the best of conventional medicine combined with the best of complementary medicine provided in a seamless and safe manner.

Functional medicine is a systems-based approach to health care that strives to identify and treat the underlying root causes of disease.  Functional medicine addresses and attempts to optimize biological imbalances in core physiological functions (digestion, metabolism, energy production, hormone communication, immune system optimization, and elimination) in order to promote optimal health and wellness.

At the CHI, our Functional Medicine Health Coach, Andrea White, works in conjunction with Dr. Junek and Dr. Matiza, offering evidence-based health coaching techniques and lifestyle counselling (such as diet, exercise, and stress reduction), to support patients in implementing the necessary change to treat a variety of health conditions. Andrea's role also involves helping triage patients waiting to see Dr. Junek or Dr. Matiza to enable potentially faster access to care through a shortened initial appointment with these doctors.
