Amber Young is a Registered Massage Therapist, Registered Yoga Teacher, Cancer Survivor and Breast Health Educator. After a personal sabbatical from her professional work and having received outstanding care at the Centre for Health Innovation during her own cancer journey (2022/23), she knew joining the Centre was a natural way forward to offer compassionate and respectful care with a dedicated team.

Amber graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in Victoria, BC and has been in practice since 2004. She has training and a wealth of experience in; traditional massage techniques, Craniosacral Therapy, Breast Massage, Oncology Massage, SomatoEmotional Release, Energy Modalities, Myofascial Release, Intra Oral massage, Lymphatic Drainage, end - of - life care and chronic illness. She also has a diverse background in offering workshops, yoga and movement classes, as well as various presentations on breast health, stress management, cancer care, and relaxation techniques.

She has been teaching breast health workshops since 2007 and completed the Mammalive Healthy Breast program in 2020 to deepen this work.

Amber has volunteered for the BC Cancer Agency and the Royal Victoria Hospice (2003 – 2005), she also served on the board of advisors for the Victoria Cancer Resource Centre. When she moved to Toronto in 2005, she volunteered by offering hands on healing care and community presentations at Wellspring Cancer Centre. In 2021, she completed the Ontario Hospice training program.

Amber has also served as an advisor in the student clinic and co-taught at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy (Toronto).

Throughout her life, (since she was a little girl) Amber has found her personal anchor in yoga and nature. She is, and continues to be, a lifelong student. She completed the 8-week Mindfulness Stress Management program in 2014, diving into the teachings of Jon Kabat-Zinn. In 2016, she completed a 200 Hr yoga training and became certified as a Yoga Teacher (Under Devinder Kaur, Prana Shanti, Ottawa). In 2017, she explored business ownership, as she created Surya Daya, a yoga studio which offered in person classes until the pandemic in 2020. Amber has also completed her training in advanced breast health practices, a 3-year shamanic program with Ninth Wave Arts (completed in the fall of 2023) restorative yoga trainings, accessible yoga (2024, Heyman), and trauma informed work.

In 2023-24, while going through chemotherapy, Amber received her Sound Therapy certification (with Z. Blackburn and D. Stone, Sunreed). Since returning to her practice, she has witnessed the profound potential when we integrate sound into hands on work and movement classes.

Amber is in service to the intricate web of life; reminding her every day (especially as a mom of two beautiful and energetic boys) about the importance of self-care and living with compassion, a message she strongly brings to her work.

She enjoys the balance of her vocation and makes non-negotiable time for unrolling her mat for her personal yoga practice, frolicking in the forest, making music with her family, watching the birds, and painting bees and flowers. She envisions that, in this human experience, everyone has the space to safely discover themselves in mind, body and spirit. She looks forward to supporting you on your unique journey.
