Nurse Practitioner

Carrie Whittley graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science cum laude from the University of Ottawa in 2000. After working in both acute care and public health, Carrie returned to school to complete her Master of Science and Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the University of Ottawa in 2006.

Carrie has had a varied career working with vulnerable populations as well as those who have had a history of trauma. She has extensive experience in sexual health and is committed to both screening and treatment of these sometimes difficult to discuss subjects. She is also well versed in mental health needs of the individual, client and community and takes a very holistic approach in the treatment of the causes and symptoms of these complex conditions.

Carrie has recently taught a course on trauma informed women’s care and trauma in general and is a guest faculty member of the Mental Health Certification course for Nurse Practitioners specifically in trauma care. She has undergone extra training in this area and has a passion for helping people care for themselves while working within a trauma lens.

Carrie continues to work in the youth justice system, anti-human trafficking, Cannabis prescribing as well as with an older population at a local residence for those with mental health and addictions.

Carrie often receives requests for trauma informed care and would like to be able to offer this care to the general population. Carrie connects quickly with clients and offers a non-judgemental, calm practise of quality health care. Carrie has a host of resources that she can refer to if desired or is able to work one on one with the client to achieve the goal of maximizing their health.

As a member of the Centre for Health Innovation team, Carrie is excited to be working with this amazing organization and increasing accessibility to more clients in the Ottawa and surrounding community.
